A BIG CONTAMINANT NEAR OF HOME
ReplyDeleteBy: Ana Del Pilar Suarez
Pollution is an issue that affects quality of life and altered natural ecosystems. Industrial processes and operating thermoelectric power station based on coal are some of the major contributing factors to the increase in environmental pollution levels in our region. For that reason, is important to know and analyze how are been affected: air. Water, land, flora, fauna and human beings whom live near of thermoelectric power station GENSA in Paipa.
GENSA is thermoelectric power station that uses coal as fuel in industrial processes, since its installation, pollution levels have increased, which mostly affect air, water land, flora, fauna and human beings in this population.
The air is affected because GENSA generate and emit pollutant gases as sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons; they are released into the atmosphere. Furthermore, coal fine particulates can be inhaled by humans, animal and others fall on the plants which affects the process of photosynthesis.
According to a study by Winfield about water pollution in the thermoelectric power stations, water is used to wash boilers and GENSA apparatus, where water is polluted with oils, acid salts, metals and others highly toxic components which are then taken to the cooling lakes Gensa; where the metabolic processes of aquatic organisms are altered. However, many people use the lake water to irrigate crops and for animals.
Water pollution, air, vegetation has caused many animals migrate and that the few remaining species are exposed to hazardous physical alterations to their survival. In 2011, ombudsman of Paipa put the complain to CORPOBOYACA, where he reported about the high levels of pollution that GENSA was producing. According to CORPOBOYACA studies, each millimeter of air had between 200 and 250 milligrams of contaminating material. Because of that GENSA invested in equipment such as filters to minimize environmental impact.
So, GENSA has a social commitment to the people of that town, they have to develop social projects that benefit the community as health brigades, build bridges, schools, roads in good condition. however, that is not enough compared to the pollution to which the population is expose, and the greatest paradox is that the company exploits the natural resources of the region, such as coal, used the waters of Chicamocha river, and yet the people directly affected by pollution have to pay for the service of home energy, when this should be free for them.
we should be aware that environmental damage arising from the operation of the thermoelectric power station not only affects the population of paipa; air currents carry pollutants to surrounding communities such as Tuta, Sotaquira, Duitama, Sogamoso increasing affected areas.
In spite of the measures implemented to counter the environmental effects have not been sufficient .the contamination is evident; the inhabitants are suffering respiratory diseases and skin cancer, do not produce equal crops, infertile soils are almost in conclusion the ecosystem is highly deteriorated. And It is sad when the laws in our country allow these companies to operate without much supervision.I just hope that when the authorities make greater environmental control these companies is not too late for the general population.

ReplyDeleteTAKE CARE OF OUR OWN HOME
Today we are living on our planet something inexplicable as it is: climate change. We are complaining every day in case of rain, or shine, if it is cold, if it's hot, etc.; but we are not aware of what is happening and only we care about say things like, "The weather is crazy." Persons responsible for the study, have taken many theories discussing if whether this is natural or due to human actions, but finally, for sure do not know what's really going on.
We should note that this is not something that appeared so far. Climate change began to emerge since 1800, was begun when the industrial revolution. The rapid development of technologies that allowed using fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas, gasoline, etc.) as power source, it influenced in the same way in the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) that were thrown into the atmosphere.
The international community and especially the media have approached this phenomenon as the cause of industrial production. According to these, the generation of greenhouse gases from human activity, seems to be the culprit of acceleration climate change.
It is clear that the impacts have been in agriculture, human health, ecosystems on land and ocean, water supplies and the way of life of many people that is striking; these impacts are occurring from the poles topics, from small to large islands and continents, from the richest to the poorest countries.
On the other hand, we constantly see how the media shows news about floods, fires, and many more natural disasters that we are living in our world. A clear example, glaciers are slowly destroying generating more water, which some scientists say that the water level could rise up to 70 centimeters by 2100, ie could wipe out entire cities. But then, what is being done about it? If your life revolves around "live comfortably" without thinking that new generation of people are going to suffer these consequences they will be our own children, but not only them, we must also think of animals, many species are already extinct because of what ?
In addition, the government is merely interested in economic progress, leaving aside such problems, they does not take seriously that until it happens something. For example in Casanare, last year a drought that killed 2,000 animals and yet the minister of environment believes "that's normal, it was not so serious"; but as the weather nothing can be considered "normal"
We must be aware that this problem is growing every day more and we must start with ourselves, from our home, contribute to actions such as recycling, make appropriate use of public services like water, electricity, reduce consumption, because practically everything we consume contributes to global warming, from extraction of raw materials to processing of the product when we discard. This is a wellness that needs the world and us to ensure a home in the future.
“Climate change does not respect border; it does not respect who you are - rich and poor, small and big. Therefore, this is what we call 'global challenges,' which require global solidarity”. By Ban Ki-moon

DeleteTHINK TWICE BEFORE WASTING FOOD – LUCÍA RINCÓN
ReplyDeleteNowadays, there are different and difficult issues that affect million people throughout the world; among them, hunger constitutes the most serious problem of humanity. It is manifested in different ways, the most important are malnutrition and under nutrition. Also, hunger affects people of all ages, but children are the most visible victims of this terrible situation. It is caused by several factors such as: poverty, harmful economic systems, poor agricultural structure, climate change, and world population. Besides, in spite of the different strategies of organizations to combat hunger, this seems to be insufficient to eradicate this problem in the world.
Hunger is a big social issue that affects children, adults and older people in many countries, mostly African. According to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Hunger is defined specifically as “consumption of fewer than 1800 kilocalories a day; the minimum that most people require to live a healthy and productive life. The vast majority of the nearly one billion people deemed of hungry in our world suffer from chronic hunger caused by a lack of both sufficient quantity and quality of food” this is evident in malnutrition and under nutrition which hinders the development of people and societies because of this prevents people are healthy and lead an active life.
On the other hand, hunger and under nutrition are globally considered the main health risk, more than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. The Nations Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that, about 795 million people are suffering from chronic undernourishment this year. Unfortunately, children are the most affected. According to Colombia’s Family Welfare institute, 500 children die of malnutrition each year, here in Colombia one in five children suffers of hunger, especially in the departments of La Guajira and Chocó where in recent days about 77 thousand students were left without school food service, this because of the suspension of certain contracts by negligence in providing the service, these children were getting scarce and low quality of food, which was not within the assigned budget. On this occasion, a case of corruption is evident, just in a place where children have numerous needs.
In addition, although the world produces enough food to feed everybody, there are many reasons that prevent all people do not have access to the necessary food, some of the main causes are poverty, it is due to people's lack of resources, and extremely unequal income distribution in the world; harmful economic systems, because the control over resources and income is based on military, political, and economic power that typically ends up in the hands of a minority, where corruption of rulers prevails; conflict that produces displacements due to violence; poor agricultural structure and climate change, because of the adequacy of food and agricultural policy throughout the world, especially their lack of benefit to poor farmers, and the Increasing drought, flooding, and changing climatic patterns that require a shift in crops and farming practices that may not be easily; and finally, the world population that does make it more difficult to provide a decent standard of living for all.
To conclude, today, it is evident that rich countries consume most of the world's resources bringing thousands of people into extreme poverty and devastating the environment. Likewise, what is preventing to develop solutions to eradicate poverty and hunger is the lack of political will and pressure that the rich and powerful elites have on decision making by governments. I consider that although it is difficult to eradicate hunger at all, it is necessary to supply directly to those people who are most in need, the basic food to their survival, this in order to avoid that resources are not used in a proper way. As a final point, I think to end hunger is necessary to end inequality.

DeletePOVERTY
ReplyDeleteI consider that there is no one single definition of poverty but the most commonly used way to measure poverty is base on income, lifestyle and socio-economic level. For us a person is considered por if his or her income level falls below some mínimum level necesary to meet basic needs; for example food, clothes, own house and education.
FACTS AND FIGURES ON POVERTY
According to United Nations Development Programme and UNICEF
- More than a quarter of the inhabitants of developing countries still have nothing to live on
- Almost one person in five (1.2 billion men, women and children) are currently living in a situation of extreme poverty.
- 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world
POVERTY IN COLOMBIA
Colombia is a middle income country where a large proportion of the population live in poverty. Colombia is also the third most unequal country in Latin America and tenth in the world. Furthermore, poverty affects women, children, Afro-Colombian and Indigenous groups and displaced persons.
Very few poor people work in the formal sector, which would allow them access to health care or pension benefits. Thus the income poverty from which they suffer is further aggravated by insecurity and by the inadequacy of the social services to which they have access.
In addition, poor quality and access to education disproportionately affect children from poor families, making it even harder for them to ever break the cycle of poverty
5 WAYS TO END POVERTY AROUND THE WORLD
1. Quality education
2. Access to health care
3. Sponsor an orphan
4. Volunteer: joining many volunteer programs
5. Clean out your closet
WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT THE POOR?
Currently is difficult for us offer any help because some of us think that assisting the poor increases dependency and produces a “culture of poverty” that persists from generation to generation, but on the other hand other people think that is good offer economic help to these people. So, depend if you want ori f you don’t.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Breaking the cycle of poverty begins when you invest in children; sponsor a child or give a donation to support child-centred projects in an area of greatest need.

DeleteDROUGHTS MINDS
ReplyDeleteAccording to the news in Colombia, we are in a critical situation is slowly destroying our habitat, such as floods, tsunamis, dirty water, destruction of the ozone, exploitation of resources, animal extinction, among others but one of the more troubling it is drought, which is mainly related with water lack, that it is related with other factors like: high or low temperatures, hurricane winds, torrential rains after dry periods, degradation of vegetation cover, and so on; this issue affect enormously our lives, because it is produced for lack of water so without water there are not food, there are not animals, there are not human beings, there are not world.
This global problem is the result of many human activities such as: destruction of organic matter, abuse in the use of chemicals, monoculture, uncontrolled burning grazing, abuse in the use of water, inappropriate land agriculture, and many more factors that reduce the holding capacity of the soil moisture, and that makes that every day of our days are more tedious, more hot, with more people, more cars, more industries, more work, more factories, and less agriculture, less responsability, less forests, less animals, less water, less life. because we are humans beings with a droughts minds, with a poor thoughts that think for today but not for tomorrow, that make things for us without think in my partner, without think in my habitat, in my environment, in the house of all living beings, in this, our planet our earth.
Thoroughly, these enormous issues are also the result of many diferent habits of human activity, that daily we made, like: use aerosols, use a lot of water for washing cars, washing our bodies, our tooth, our clothes, and so on; use of many things producing gas, smoke, building new houses and flats and etcetera. But if we as a human beings think in a future, think in our children, in our animals, in our environment, in our selves; we make a big change in our habits. It means plant trees, save water and energy, reciclying, work for a better future. Because we need to take in back in time for remembering an environment without these issues, for remembering our beautiful rivers, for remembering when rains were normal, when we did not suffer for water, when we worked as a farmers without chemicals, when the earth was happy and it showed its happiness with rains, with sun naturally. We must take into account that a very little change can do the earth smile again and again.

DeleteSKIN CANCER.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, it is not a secret skin cancer is one of the most worrisome situations in the whole world. The global warming has serious implications in the existence of human beings, and the determinant factor of the propagation of this global issue. In this text, I will try to illustrate the importance of knowing and preventing some aspects related to skin cancer and since my place in the world, to propose some possible ways to raise awareness people around me about the implications of this concern. Thus, people can do the same with people around them and the cases of skin cancer could decrease.
According to The American Cancer Society, Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. About 3.5 million cases of basal and squamous cell skin cancer are diagnosed in this country each year. Melanoma, a more dangerous type of skin cancer, will account for more than 73,000 cases of skin cancer in 2015; only in the United States. In this sense, it is clear the alarming rate existing and the big target to achieve. Making part in local ideas that emerge in great results, everybody can try to change those numbers taking step.
The American Cancer Society says: Most skin cancers are a direct result of exposure to the UV rays in sunlight. Both basal cell and squamous cell cancers (the most common types of skin cancer) tend to be found on sun-exposed parts of the body, and their occurrence is related to lifetime sun exposure. The risk of melanoma, a more serious but less common type of skin cancer, is also related to sun exposure, although perhaps not as strongly. Skin cancer has also been linked to exposure to some artificial sources of UV. In this moment, the role of each person starts to take in practice, taking care of himself or herself and then of people around them. Due to this, I have decided to work on it, because it is something that involves all of us.
The skin is the largest organ of the body, and for this reason I consider it is a humanity business to prevent everything that can mean risk or damage. Taking account it is a global issue, everyone has the responsibility to make part of the change and contribute to the solution. It is as simple as to use sunblock before go out house every single day and avoid the exposition to the sun from 11 am to 2pm.I consider that it is so important that if the cancer already exist, there is to act immediately.
We can have in our hands a possible solution. It is clear global warming, it is something maybe we cannot manage, but each one can do or create habits. Habits of change and personal upgrade that future generation also can make for a healthy lifestyle and a better life quality.
Nobody is exempt of contract it, take care of you and people around you.

Earth harmed
ReplyDeleteThe earth was a pure and harmless place to live. Until the humans appear to modify it, without think about the consequences. They just look for their benefit and all the changes that they have done creating serious problems. Nowadays when people realize the damage on earth are trying to reverse that problems but now it is so difficult but it is not impossible, If people are conscious about what are doing wrong it could generate answer to improve lifestyle without affect our planet.
Now some people say why is so crazy this climate? Or why we suffer many natural phenomena? But they don’t bear in mind that when they start to build their houses, they cut down many trees and move from their location natural elements, necessaries to follow a functioning order. In the same time to try, make a better place to live a point of destruction is increasing. Every building in process generates environmental pollution that alters nature physical and chemical state.
It is called climate change to the climate modification regarding to weather historical to one global o regional. Such changes are produced to several time scales and over all meteorological parameters: temperature, atmospheric pressure, precipitations, cloudiness, etc. In theory, due to a nature causes. (Crowley and North, 1988) There are different pollution types that affect our environment in the water, air and ground. Also apparently inoffensive materials hurt our planet, overcoat climate, with the called global warming.
These problems come from antiquity; along history the humanity has had the power of handle the environment for a better life style even when consequences do not matter. The early humans lived in harmony with their around but their distance beginning when first discovery arise. It is known that evolution is a necessary part of life but it always have affected the earth.
Maybe the government is conscious about this problem, and is creating measures to preserve the environment and avoid spoil it more, but if it problem is ignored all that is known, all that the humanity has compose and all living things could disappear; these measures don’t have an useful impact because governments are worrier in his economy and political interests which are not less important but it is necessary think about future generations and planet caring. Change beginning from each one, even children will grow up being conscious human beings.

PROTECT ENDANGERED SPECIES
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree that all species are important for the ecosystem equilibrium there are many examples that can show us how some special change in our environment also can change, in a drastic way, life of many species, for that reason, many species are now in danger of becoming extinct. Unfortunately, aspects such as globalization, population increase, climate change has serious consequences for many species including the human beings therefore my main purpose through this essay is to describe some causes of this problem, and in this way create awareness about this global issue, because of that is affecting us all and so, finally find possible solutions.
Among threats to endangered species are businesses that buy and sell animals for their skin and other parts. A common practice that has grown thanks to the demands of global markets in which the most important is the competition and profits despite of the high cost paid by our environment. A possible solution to prevent the growth of this business would be to force whoever has run these businesses to do environmental awareness campaigns. That is to say, whoever has caught buying or selling products made from endangered species has the obligation to do community service in addition to pay fines.
Another threat to endangered species is population increase, currently, are living on the planet about 7.000 million people according to the United Nations' World Population Prospects report and is estimated to the next years population will reach 9.0 billion, assuming a decrease in average fertility rate from 2.5 down to 2.0.
It is a big problem, given that few people are really thinking about the damage that humans do our planet. Therefore, we are very destructive, may be because usually we think and acting like if, we were the only ones on this planet. For this reason every day we are more selfish, thinking about our own businesses, the latest fashion trends, and latest technology while many businesses are looking for expanding and conquering the jungles leaving many animals and plants without habitat.
in this point, is totally necessary get more information about it issue to do whatever we can to save all species, for example to know what kind of species are disappearing, what consequences bring us, I consider it is the first step to do a change.
The last one aspect is climate change, it is the main reason why animal like polar bears are dying. However, the human activities like destruction of forest, burning of fossil fuels and environmental pollution are not controlled.
Unfortunately, this situation show u show to the society, urban developing is more important than animal habitats, but in my opinion, an animal has de same right to life as a person does because every animal on earth is important, and the extinction of one threatens us all.
In conclusion, we should be more careful and respectful with each one of species that are living on the planet because theirs existence depends of us; also we should protect them because we need of them to keep the ecosystem equilibrium. Otherwise, the changes in the world will be affect us.

DeleteOUR HUMANITY THROUGH INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
ReplyDeleteThese days, many global problems have arisen affecting the world in which we live. However, few people are concerned to determine what are those causes which affecting our society and destroying our population. Therefore, it is time to analyze the oldest cause of death, although every day is present, very few know its existence: infectious diseases.
Infectious diseases are easy and fast transmission, caused by pathogens. Most times, people do not know that these diseases can be transmitted by sexual contact, through body fluids; as injections or blood transfusions, and from mother to child.
Sanchez (2011) states that "The infectious diseases are epidemics that over time have killed millions of human beings." This is a very true statement, because history shows us that after many pests and diseases, scientists began to investigate its causes, but until today there are treatments but no cures for these diseases.
From history, scientists determined that it was necessary to classify these diseases. For this reason, Libonatti (1973) proposed the following classification:
- Viral diseases: These are produced by invading virus; for example: the flu, chickenpox, smallpox, measles, rubella, so on.
- Bacterial Diseases: These are produced by bacteria in the body; for example: tuberculosis and whooping cough.
- Venereal diseases: These are sexually transmitted; for example: syphilis and AIDS.
In this point, it is necessary to talk about the most important infectious diseases: AIDS or acquired immune deficiency syndrome. It is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This stars with a person experiences a brief period of influenza-like illness. Then, this is followed by a prolonged period without symptoms. As the infection progresses, it interferes with the immune system, making the person much more susceptible to common infections. Currently, this is one of the leading causes of death. Medical centers estimate that 5 million people die each day because AIDS.
As we can see, infectious diseases are a problem that is increasing every day more. To clarify closest cases; in 2010 Colombia presented 152,560 people affected by A H1N1 and 233 people died. In addition, according to the National Institutes of Health, Malaria and dengue are two serious diseases that few Colombians know.
Now that we know the situation completely, the question is what can we do? There are different mechanisms that help us to prevent these diseases. First, it is important to consider the use of condoms to prevent sexual transmission. Second, mothers must attend prenatal checkups in order to treat some problems. Finally, there are vaccines for some diseases we can apply before having the disease.
Fan (2011) states that “All of these diseases in our society have created two important aspects.” On the one hand, the negative stigma that people with these conditions suffer through discrimination and rejection of the society in which they are, and on the other hand, the economic impact because people should spend more money on their medications and treatments.
After understanding that these problems have accompanied our humanity for many years. I can say it is not easy trying to find an effective solution to stop the deaths occurring by infectious diseases. Also, it is necessary that all the issues discussed in this essay are taken into account because if each human being begins a proper process of prevention, we can reduce death rates.

DeleteFor me, for her…
ReplyDeleteOur world has been passing among changes in which we are guilty. Our decisions, our actions affect directly or indirectly our natural environment. Because of that, people around the world, have to confront different and traumatic situations. Different believes, different ways of perceiving the world, different ways of perceiving the roles that everyone has in society, have been other important issue that affect more than anything else. We as human beings each other are social, our behaviors and someone else behaviors are different and to have conviviality, we made laws. But… What happen when those laws are not fair? What happen when those laws are made just take into account the needs of some? I would have a probably answer to that. When it happens people start to rebel.
One of the most promulgated issues that society has is the gender inequality. Gender inequality, is understood as a problem that exist between women and men rights, and opportunities across all sectors of society. The increase necessity of women to be including in different aspects as: an educative, economic, social, cultural and political participation and decision-making, has been that some sectors fight to achieve equality. Gender equality is one of UNESCO’s two global priorities, who fight to avoid the gap between women and men. For UNESO (UNESCO Priority Gender Equality Action Plan), the concept of gender equality refers to:
“The equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities of women and men and girls and boys.” (Page 11)
This movement has different considerations that are against this movement: the cultural thinking (patriarchal societies); lacks of foundations and superficiality (they argument that this movement just focus disproportionately on policies integrating women in public life and the working environment, such as equal pay; instead of focusing on the most urgent problem women face, and people who think that this movement use it as a way of reinforcing Western moral superiority since they ignore the issues that exist in the West are similar as in other parts of world. Finally, some think that different forms of violence against women have different value, and are different depending of the country and the context in which they develop.
Many have been the efforts to fight against inequality: Violence against women (in which the acts of violence are just committed against women, because they are women and cohabit with a patriarchal society, the forms of that include sexual violence (including war rape, marital rape and child sexual abuse), domestic violence, forced marriage, forced prostitution, sex trafficking, honor killings, dowry killings, acid attacks, stoning, flogging, forced sterilization, forced abortion), reproductive and sexual health and rights, freedom of movement, girls' access to education, political participation of women, economic empowerment of women, investigation and prosecution of crimes against women and girls, harmful traditional practices, portrayal of women in the media: the fake stereotypes that different medias give us about the role of the women in the society and the way in which women have to act and to develop themselves.
Concluding, gender equality is an issue that affect all of us. Of course along the time, violence against women has been declining but is not enough. Around the world there are yet hundreds and thousands of women that in this moment are being battered, silenced, beaten, raped, abused, killed and things like that. This fight is ours, all of us has an important role, helping another one. We have to analyze, they could be our mothers, our sisters, our aunts, our daughters and so on. Gender equality is not about a concept of something is not about which things involves, is about every moment in which women, girls are feeling less than men is about every situation in which someone is looking but doing anything.

DeleteANIMAL EXTINTION; WHALES HUNTING
ReplyDeleteNowadays our world is showing us that it is tired, and we need to try to keep the earth balance. Human beings are hurting nature and as is logic earth needs to rest, and have again the balance and its reaction is to kill people who is affecting it through natural disasters.
I am going to do emphasis in animal extinction, because is a really important issue in which people do not think a lot because they do not imagine what is the real animal importance in nature.
I want to begin by telling that animal hunting affects the environment balance because step by step it can influence in animal extinction and it affects too the feed chain in two or three stages what is going to affect both species; depredator and victim. The consequence of this is extinction or limit their reproduction, but we, humans are not feeling aware of this, that is what I would like to question, are we going to be aware just until we are dying?
What is happening currently with whales?
One of the main reasons of animal extinction is that there are in the world lots of humans using and wasting lots of resources, there is a population excess and that has an impact to the other species.
Whales have huge importance in sea balance because they contribute with the growth of new plankton and weather in general. Whales are currently in danger extinction because humans are destroying their life zones because of the pollution that makes that whales move to other places to find food and there is when they are victims of fishers or they cannot move from the beach and they die there.
The power to fix this begins by the fishers especially by Japan, Norway and Iceland which are the countries where whales hunting is increasing and increasing more every day. Japan for example have whales hunting twice a year and it is allowed to hunt 1.000 whales, by the other side Norway hunts more than 1.000 whales now, and Iceland kill more than 200 whales per year supporting the idea of they do this to scientific studies.
What we should do is support more policies and more movements that protect animals and these countries should help and recognize that they are hurting nature and stop this, but is something that is in government hands too, so while this happen we can fight for animal rights, we have to demand, respect, do not buy things that come from death animals, do not pollute water or rivers, do not leave garbage or fire in natural parks.
To conclude I want to invite you to think, to teach your children to protect animal and use resources carefully, whales are beautiful mammals as the other animals and we have to recognize that what we have now in earth is because there are species that contribute to keep the planet balance, we do not have to treat this like an object, our earth is alive too.

OVERPOPULATION, A PROBLEM THAT INCLUDES US.
ReplyDeleteToday we are surrounded by many global issues such as pollution, environmental degradation, increased unemployment, high cost of living, among others. From my perspective, I believe that overpopulation is one of the main causes of these issues. For this, I decided to discuss this topic. This subject I will divide it into three major parts: the first is related to the causes of overpopulation, the second the effects or consequences, and the third and last refers to possible solutions.
Undoubtedly this is a topic that should interest us all, but unfortunately there are people regardless of economic status, as Steven W. Mosher says, breed like rabbits. Not really analyze what could be the future for these new creatures that come into the world to suffer hunger, not having a home or education worthy of a human being, also reach a less desirable environment, which worsens every day in all the senses.
So what are the causes of overpopulation? Conserve Energy Future, presents six possible causes, which I find very accurate and appropriate. Then there is the decrease in the death rate, better medical facilities, more hands to Overcome Poverty, technological advances in fertility treatments, immigration issues, and lack of family planning. Although we noticed, every one of the possible causes are related to each other. Technological advances and medical discovery as vaccines have wiped out some kind of disease, leading to having less risk of death. In the same way mentioned fertility treatments that initiate new lives. I think that in some contexts is considered the option to have more children in order to work and help their parents out of poverty, but I do not really understand if you do not notice that a person means expenditures as it needs to feed, educate and more things supply basic needs.
In my opinion the consequences of overpopulation are countless because as I mentioned at the beginning, covering social, economic, environmental, physical problems, among others. as we know, the earth only produces a limited amount of food and water, however, the state of overpopulation in which we find ourselves requires us to abuse these natural recourses and also a few days ago mentioned, (August 14) we are in ecological deficit, which means that we have finished with the estimate for the current year, and to survive we have to spend some of the natural resources of 2016. Obviously a cause more is the number of industries and vehicles belonging to the large number of inhabitants on our planet. Likewise, the unemployment and the high cost of living are consequences of overpopulation, as each day more and more people graduate looking for a job which does not exist and the struggle for survival is greater with each passing day.
ReplyDeleteIn finally, how we can help to stop the increase of overpopulation? I believe that change begins with us as future teachers. The solutions revolve around education, so we have to create awareness from our context to gradually knowledge about sexual education and planning is comprehensive.
Camilo Mora, Ph. D. and researcher at the University of Hawaii, says literally that "there is no bed for many people." So it is our duty to understand and do understand that in the economic and ecological situation for which no one is exempt, cannot have more than two children. In addition, there are parents who believe that if a school are taught sex education, are leading students to have sex. In this case the disinformation can be a cause. This situation is quite evident in the low-income populations, which are mostly located far from the urban sector.
"A study by my group, and published in 2011, suggests that optimal consumption levels would need 27 planets to compensate for the consumption of resources of the human population by 2050," says Mora.

DeleteSTOP THROWING GARBAGE
ReplyDeleteGarbage can be considerated as all those things which are unusable and, therefore, it ought to be eliminated. It has become a real issue so, it is necessary to check this problem deeply. People are not used to recycle nor throw garbage and, because of that, it pretends to raise people’s awareness. Colombia is, in relation to the environment, a country that does not know how big this problem is.
Pollution is a big issue around the world because people produce and produce solid waste that it is essentially garbage from our homes, businesses and some industrial sources. How the director of the environment research foundation in England, Peter Montague1 says: “solid waste production in the world is growing in volume and toxicity. More and more of our everyday products contain toxic chemicals which eventually impact public health and the environment”. It means that the garbage that people produce is very dangerous for themselves because today it is very difficult get products without chemical substances; and this kind of substances produce pollution and contribute with acid rain and environmental impacts.
On the other hand, pollution is an issue worldwide but in Colombia, people do not worry about it, because our culture is very relaxed with that; we do not recycle. We leave trash in any place because it is easier than collect it in a good way and put in in the specific place to be collected. We do not know that garbage is terrible to the environment because it will eventually rot and in the process it may smell and produce illnesses.
When people put out waste before the hour that garbage Company collect it, animals damage bags and trash is exposed to produce toxic substances and bugs such flies that can affect and contaminate people, air, water, etc. For this reason garbage is damage to the planet but especially for air and water and if we have problems to breathe and we cannot drink water, we should be unhealthy people and we should have and sanitary emergency.
In general garbage is a pollution agent but especially organic waste including paper and cardboard. Although some of these solid waste can be used as a growing media for plants for nutrients and energy contained in it; in a bad conditions these can produce methane gas. It is a kind of gas that contributes with climate change. Organic waste is a problem also because it is putrescible and attracts pests like rats if it is left to rot.
ReplyDeleteIt means that people can contribute with public health if they put out garbage in a specific time and bring it to specific place to be collected. In this way people can contribute with ecological process to avoid dangerous climate changes and pollution that causes terrible and strange illnesses.
How Fullcycle´s article2 says: “Waste minimization should be and approach that aims to reduce the production of waste through education and the adoption of improved production processes and less wasteful practices”. It can be a good solution. If people recycle and separate garbage it is useful to the environment because we can use organic waste to improve the fertility and health of our soil and the other types of garbage can be processed again. In this way people avoid pests, pollution, bad smells and sanitary emergency and they contribute with pure air and water.
Government in Colombia has a lot of work to do in relation with waste starting by have a better place to landfill, avoid incineration and establish several ways to teach recycling culture and environment care.

DeleteGender Violence
ReplyDeleteAlthought time women has been maltreated by the society and the violence has been present in different places of world, without difference of social class, but the same time they have fought to defent their rights,in this way, nowadays we can see that the women has rights and there are laws that defend them, but it doesn´t mean that the violence has desapeared for that reason a lot of woman continue fighting to gender ecuality , also to educate diferente people.
The past century not only there were tecnological, social revoluctions but also an advanced legislation in favor of women's rights, however until this century those laws are implemented to defend the women rights. That violence is present every continents and social classes because the problem is people do not have a good education about gender, dicrimitation, domination sistem and a lot of factors are presents in the violence of gender.
Worldwide They have taken important steps because actuality we can do different things that in the past it was imposible because the laws were different, for instance ,right to vote ,in the nineteenth century the movement began for the right of women to participate in government and in the drafting of laws1 ; property rights, from the mid-nineteenth century, and british americans legislators passed laws protecting women property of their husbands and creditors from their husbands 2 ; birth control and reproductive rights, in the seventies , feminists advanced the concept of voluntary motherhood3 those are some rights that the women have landed since their fights.
At this time the violence against women is diferent, but it is present , after the revolution of ideas of woman, men began act different, many years ago there are a submissive woman and they did not have to attac them, nowdays there are a rebelled and indignant woman and the man feels underestimated, and their reaction is the hits, words, acts and it is psicologycal, physicaly, sexual, economic violence. For that reason for exaple in Colombia there are laws
In contrast, at this time there are different woman movements that fight to claims for rights and gender nonviolence, in Colombia we can find grassroots women's organizations like ‘ Asociación de Madres Comunitarias Por Una Mejor Colombia (AMCOLOMBIA)’, ‘Asociación de Mujeres de la Guajira, el Movimiento Popular de Mujeres, and collective ‘Yo También Soy Mujer’, neighborhoods of southeastern Bogota and ‘De Mujer a Mujeres’, Tunal neighborhood of Bogota, on the other hand there are present organizations such us ‘Asociación Nacional de Mujeres Campesinas e Indígenas de Colombia (ANMUCIC)’, ‘Asociación Nacional de Amas de Casa Rurales (AMAR)’ Red Rojo y Violeta (MODEP)´’ and the feminist movement 4 . I must say that not only are women who fight for their rights and nonviolence , in this movements there are man that strives next to woman.
At time the man are striving to change the idea that the woman is different that the man, While it is true because we are woman and they are man between both there are difference the women are not less that the men. Nowadays we need education, we must to educate different people if we want to change and removethe gender violence, we do not need punishment or prison, because these is not the solution, maybe we create a bubble around us without gender violence but it is useless if the world is falling apart.

DeleteGender Violence
ReplyDeleteThe violation of the human rights affect both gender women and men, it is preset in the history of humanity, the studies have showed that whatever violence against woman is violence of gender, this is present in all context, culture and space, This means it is directly linked to the unequal distribution of power and asymmetrical relations established between men and women in our society that perpetuate the devaluation of the feminine and its subordination to the masculine.Gender violence can take many forms, which classifies the crime, according to the relation in which it is framed and the exercise of power which is in the following categories: sexual rape and incest, sexual harassment at work and in educational institutions, sexual violence against female detainees and prisoners, violence against women, trafficking of women and domestic violence. This November 25 marks the ONU International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. A 53 years of the fact that this day reminds (the murder of the Mirabal sisters by the Trujillo regime in the Dominican Republic), yet gender violence is a global problem and many edges, which is far from being resolved.
The figures speak for themselves, but more disturbing is that surely many cases are not even part of the statistics, since the taboos around violence resulting in many cases the situation remains a secret. What's more, there are women who may not be aware that they are victims of psychological, economic or sexual violence, because these leave no visible marks and physical violence
so the violence of gender has been studied by different persons that they are against of this terrible social issue, for decades looking some possible solution, the laws have increased to this crime, but every day in the news show cases and more cases of abuse of both women and men, before were common abuse only against women but in the last years they are increased cases of battered men, for this reason is necessary to create something plan to try of avoid this activity unnecessary, actually people thinks that it has finished, because now we have more possibilities of confront whatever person that he or she hurt us, but we need to be more aware of the magnitude of the problem and possible solutions, creating a positive attitude.
is necessary take control of own facts, is the moment of to fight for own rights, that exist a equality of gender, that society understand that we are equal and with the same capabilities, that don't matter if we think different we should be respectful, to combat this crime is mandatory to begin to be human very human, and understand that we are different, but all deserve to be treated equally.

SAVING A DROP YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO SAVE THE WORLD.
ReplyDeleteWe usually spend water in our diary activities. We need water for taking a shower, for cooking the meals, for cleaning the home, for watering the plants, for washing the dishes and for the majority of our activities so why not care the water? Around the world, there are many water problems. Colombia is not the exception, however we do not have those problems maybe we are indifferent. But what about people with water issues? Who are the responsible? Who can help them?
The water is the essence of the life. The majority of thing with life need water for survive. It is a global issue and this problem is involved everyone. There is no water or it is dirty because of we are polluting it. We do not how use it. Throughout history the humans have believed have the control of the world although it is the biggest lie. We cannot control the natural resources they are controlling us all time; before the human thought water is a renewable resource however a problem arise for people what happened if consumer water put out? Obviously we do not have the answer.
Few months ago, here in Colombia was presented a big problem with the water in the Casanare department, where hundreds of animals died because of thirsty and hundreds of crops were lost to drought. This left millions in losses for farmers and ranchers. Even more serious was the situation in La Guajira department where were people who died due to lack of water. These are only two examples that might happen if we do not care the water. Those situations could be repeated.
The water is putting out and we are not making anything to avoid it. In our hand is the possibility of changing the direction of this situation. We could make little thing in our houses thing such as close the faucet, collect water while it is heating and water the plants with it, wash the car with bucket and the most important do not waste it.
Finally, we must use less water as possible, in addition we have to think in the future generations, and preserve the earth because this will be the hauses for our children and grandchildren.

ReplyDeleteTHERE IS ENOUGH WORLD FOR ALL, BUT BAD ADMINISTERING
Human population growth is increasing so fast that is not a crisis yet, but is time to action. There are two main factors. The world has a lot of resources, although they are administered by 5% of world population. The real problem of overpopulation is not about figures, but wrong distribution.
Consumption of natural resources plays an important role in the near crisis of overpopulation. If we are talking about quantities the World Centric shows us that 20% of the people in developed nations consume 86% of the world’s goods, the rich nations are invading and making capital out of the resources of the poorest nations. For example: United States makes up only 4.5% of the world's population and yet consume nearly 20% of its energy. The World Resources Institute, in 1995 report, referred to "the frequently expressed concern that high levels of consumption will lead to resource decrease and to physical dearth that might limit growth or development opportunity.” These quantities won’t mean that the population will decrease making out of the capital, on the opposite we will discover new reserves and will continue exploiting old ones. A solution would be, that plenty resources can be used in place of those that become limited. And in front the problem we must to learn about materials, to use them efficiently. The world has the wealth and the resources to provide everyone the opportunity to live a dignified life.
The real problem of overpopulation is not about figures, but wrong distribution. Half of population belongs to Asia. The official population clock lets conclude us that 18.9% of world’s population belongs to China, 17.6% to India and 4.43% to United States. This figure is a clear statement of unequal distribution of population. Why they are overpopulated countries? Because the quantity of people in these groups exceeds the carrying capacity in the region. In that regions India and China we could find the megacities that are those which have over 10 million people living there, usually are located in developed countries. The population is just increasing in America and Asia, but in Europe the population is decreasing because the couples decide don’t have children, so his population in getting old. On the other hand these overpopulated countries are looking for mitigation measures, for example Ted Turner proposed a “voluntary no impose” one child family scenario and a “please two or fewer” campaign is run by population matters, so that means that we are conscious and we are looking for solutions.
We as conscious beings are directly related to be part of the solution. Making an aware use of the resources, looking for save it and make an authentic distribution. It’s important to be conscious too, about the administration of population, because we are an important role in the world, but what we need is find equilibrium in distribution. We are making solutions, that won’t have answers in few years, but we must to keep working in that. There is enough world for us, we need to work in well organization.

THE GENDER WAGE INEQUALITY IS A REALITY.
ReplyDeleteIn Colombia women have lower salaries than men despite, women have equalized or exceeded to men in the educational level and although, there are Colombian laws that prohibits the gender discrimination, the society does not practice those laws because of we are a male chauvinist society that imposes roles to men and women from childhood therefore, Colombian women must confront to different stereotypes such as: to believe women must always be responsible for housework and children's care or to think women only can be employed in jobs related to service instead of jobs related to industry. Whichever it is the reason, we should look for a solution so that, society does not believe in false stereotypes; in this way, we could change the vision of the women role.
One of the society beliefs is; to think: women only are responsible for housework and children's care; what have caused in them a work excessive burden due to, women are at job for eight hours but also, they have to do household chores. That’s why, women go to the job exhausted and therefore, they sometimes do not achieve with all their labors responsibilities, reflecting low productivity and consequently they do not get a rise; as far as, women usually reject a job's rise because it means more responsibility and less time to be at home with their children. As a result, they have low salaries in addition, many women prefer to work part-time because they can work and at the same time they can achieve with their responsibilities home.
Added to that, People instill to women from early childhood that the women's role must be related with the society service. Therefore women choose careers related to the service and not with the industrial sector that it is better paid. This perception is discouraging for women, considering that it limits their access to careers with better future in job field, for this reason society would need to encourage women to study careers related to science and mathematics, fields that are better paid.
Thus, the truth is that wage discrimination between men and women is a problem that could continue; if we do not do something to change this; if we do not look for solutions to change these differences and to modify women role in society. We can start with the new generation do not imposing certain roles to children to encourage women to study science and mathematics so, women could have a better future in job field. Or maybe we could create nursery school with extended hours; also, women could divide housework in equitable way with men; with this, women could increase their working hours, probably work full-time. moreover, It could equal maternity and paternity license achieving balance the men and women hiring therefore, it encourages men and women to dedicate more time to their newborns. Solutions are simple but women need more collaboration by men in this way, women could achieve to be more independent, worker and getting a better paid.

first of all I’m going to talk about the general cause of the pollution could be a big problem for our planet the lack of conscience for maintain our planet safe, the lack of educational programs that allow people know the truth of what will happen if we do not care the planet passing human growth in technology and population.
ReplyDeletePollution happens when the pollutants damage the planet which brings changes that give other face to our normal lifestyles unfortunately, about pollutants they are components of pollution which are generally materials of different forms such as glass, smoke, gases produced by pollution damage in the atmosphere pollution is very dangerous because cause disturbs in our ecosystem and the balance in the environment with modernization and with the pass of every days, giving rise to global warming and human illness.
Pollution happens of different ways such as: air, water, soil, radioactive, noise every form of pollution has two sources of occurrence, the point and the non-point. The point sources are easy to identify, monitor and control, I’m going to give some examples of pollution
Air pollution: this kind of pollution is very dangerous and it happens due to many reasons. Too much burning of furl which is a requirement of our daily for driving our industrial machine for creating technology and other things for subsist, the industrial machine leave substances in the air that is the main reason of the pollution here in Colombia, (I think so that the month of too much pollution is on December is the increased demand for fuel burning) in the other case of pollution we can see water pollution this kind of pollution has killed the most of species of the earth because almost 60% of the species live in the water and with too much factors such as the industrial wastes falling into the rivers, causing an imbalance in the water leaving to a hard pollution and death of aquatic species.
Also it happens by spraying insecticides, pesticides on plants that pollution the ground water system and oil spills in the oceans have caused irreparable damage to the rivers and oceans, Eutrophication is another big source; it occurs due to daily activities like washing clothes, utensils near lakes, ponds or rivers; this forces detergents to go into water which blocks sunlight from penetrating, thus reducing oxygen and making it inhabitable.
Consequences of these ways of pollution is increase the co 2 in the atmosphere leads to smog which can restrict sunlight from reaching the earth, thus preventing plants in the process of photosynthesis, gas like sulfur dioxide

DeleteCONCERN FOR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
ReplyDelete“If there is anything we wish to change in the child, we should first examine it and see whether it is not something that could better be changed in ourselves”. Carl Jung
Opportunities for achieving a change are less every day, there are little sensitive people, and the way is very long. Society is every day more capitalist, rational and materialist, the most important here is to produce and to sell. Life and time are very short for those who work by a real change and fight against bad education policies and imposed knowledge. Nowadays, people forget that values are the base for constructing peace in any society, and in the foreground peace arises when people accept, tolerate, respect, help and support others, with their ideas, ideologies, believes and customs. Thus, to have an open mind to learning from others in a real context is the key for constructing critical points of view, but it seems to be forbidden because what society wants that people knows in on TV, internet, cinema…
Mass media show ways of life and lead people to follow certain fashions and behaviors. These want to impose a general and unique opinion about what society is; so, critical thinking about the world disappear and people just have to believe everything that mass media generate. For this reason, family and educative context are very important for creating environment of interaction and communication and forget for a while technology. However, reality is very different.
The developed society does not understand work as a human activity based on dignity, freedom ethics and love, with the main purpose of being better inside a social group.
The ancestral lands that belonged to indigenous communities are now in the hands of large companies. Multinationals are the ones that make the profits and benefits. The country is left with the consequences of exploitation. A country like Colombia, with over 50% of the moors in the world cannot afford to play with water, playing with the lives of 47 million Colombians, playing with the water expense of an entire country. These droughts are because of abuse with nature and its undue exploitation. You have to start from the house to reuse, recycle, reuse.
The growth of the society should not be measured and evaluated by economic indicators; it is the cultural development which should jointly conceive the transformation of the whole society.
So it is a social problem not recognized the importance of education as a tool to raise cultural awareness and change.
